…PROMISES ROBUST, VIRILE, VIABLE GOVERNANCE
By Shabul Mazadu
Plateau State Labour Party, LP, governorship candidate, Dr. Patrick Dakum, has yesterday flagged-off of his campaign for the 2023 general elections at Langtang North Mini Stadium which was attended by massive crowd of party faithful, well wishers and supporters whose enthusiasm was unconcealed but manifested with torrential cheers, jubilation and ovation.
Speaking, elated Dakum declared that as from yesterday, his campaign has officially taken off, promising massive transformation of Plateau into robust, virile and viable state. He said, “We are moving forward. I am declaring the campaign open for every local government. You can commence campaign as it is now officially opened.”
He lamented that Plateau State can be compared to a car whose engine is about knocking and demanding an expert driver who is familiar with the road; and that the drivers are Dr. Patrick Dakum and Hon. Edward Pwajok.
Presenting the highlights of his intentions if granted the mandate to pilot the affairs of the state, Dakum spoke on security, mining, tourism, agriculture, education and health.
Dakum opened up on his discussion with the LP Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi who promised to support him on all fronts to ensure lasting security in Plateau State. According to him, Obi promised not to sit in Aso Rock and give orders but will come down to the state and find lasting solution.
Dakum who on several fora said he will boost the capacity of the first responders (hunters and vigilantes) to attacks on communities and wipe out poverty being one of the causes of insecurity, promised adequate security of lives and properties.
Dakum promised judicious and profitable means of mining and utilization of the rich mineral resources in the state for the benefit of all citizens, adding that miners will be given licence to mine too. He said, “Miners will be given licence so that none on the Plateau will mine tin and will not benefit. Plateau State will enjoy the minerals that God has placed in the state as long as Labour Party is in power.”
On agriculture, the LP gubernatorial candidate said their government will endeavour to have fertilizer blending plants in each of the three Senatorial zones, and also a tractor assembling factory as it was in Bauchi State.
He identified that most citizens of the State are farmers, who need fertilizers and tractor to boost their occupation, and promised to supply them adequately.
Dakum faulted the malfunctioning of Langtang North water dam, and promised to revamp it for both domestic and irrigation use. He said, “What happened to your dam? Do you turn it on and get water? I assure you that one of our priorities here is the provision of water. And it’s not just water for drinking but for irrigation so that we will go from production to consumption. We are going to have factories that will be provided which will take cognizance of our economic crops.”
Dakum expressed disenchantment over the deterioration of the tourism industry in Plateau State and its total state of comatose which requires revamping for the attraction of investors and tourists.
According to him, it’s a pity that whoever comes into Plateau will not see any wonderful art of tourist attraction right from Hawan Kibo despite the potentials staring at us in the face. He said, “Nothing can be done on the Plateau without tourism. Right from Hawan Kibo, if you come to Plateau, you will see tourism wonders. We’ll make sure there is a space where 100 trucks can be parked to decongest traffick at Hawan Kibo.”
On education, he attested that his wife constructed an examination hall for a school because of the passion they have for education, promised that all education institution in the state will be given priority to function very well.
Dakum said pertaining to health, “I am doctor, and all the viruses you are crying about will be dealt with and our hospitals will not be mere consulting clinics.”
Finally he admonished the crowd to get their Permanent Voters Cards, (PVCs), and use them right. He said, “Nigeria will not find lasting peace, Nigeria will not move forward if we don’t use our PVCs right.”
Earlier, Hon Edward Pwajok, Dakum’s running mate slammed the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying it has played 419 on all citizens of Nigeria, Plateau State inclusive. However he added, the 419 will be arrested by the Labour Party.
He said, “There were some new viruses we were told when we went to the Palace to visit the Langtang traditional council. They told us that there is a disease and a virus called hungerises, that’s hunger, unemploymentises (unemployment), povertises (poverty) and insecuritises (Insecurity) For all these viruses, the person that can solve them is a medical doctor. And that doctor is Dr. Patrick Sunday Dakum.
On his part, the Director General, Dakum/Pwajok Campaign Council, Hon. Joel Gwatau, thanked the crowd for turning out en masse for solidarity to the Labour Party, and wished them save journey mercies, assuring them that they will go round the entire state for the campaign in earnest.
